About Thriving with the Seasons

Welcoming Summer

Welcome Summer Forage Walk

Join us as we welcome in the energy of summer with a gentle, family friendly forage walk through Bold Venture Park in Darwen.

This walk will be led by Pete Compo from Pendle Plant Craft, who will guide us through the park and help us notice the seasonal plants, wild foods and natural remedies growing around us. It’s a chance to slow down, look a little closer, and reconnect with the land in a way many of our grandparents and great grandparents would have known so well.

Before supermarkets, processed food and busy modern life, people lived much more in rhythm with the seasons. They knew what was growing, what could be eaten, what could be used for teas, tonics and simple home remedies, and how nature supported health through every part of the year.

This walk is about bringing some of that knowledge back.

We’ll explore local plants, seasonal wisdom and the simple joy of being outdoors together. You don’t need any previous experience, just come with curiosity, comfy shoes and an open mind.

This event is suitable for all ages.

Date: Sunday 14 June 2026
Time: 1pm
Location: Bold Venture Park, Darwen
Meeting point: At the monument by the entrance
Walk leader: Pete Compo, Pendle Plant Craft

This event is part of our Thriving with the Seasons project, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.Come along, bring the family, and let’s welcome summer the old way, by getting outside, noticing what is growing, and remembering that nature has always had something to teach us

About Thriving with the Seasons

18 June Meet the bees 6pm

Meet the Bees is a rare chance to get up close to a working rooftop apiary with Roof Top Bees at Cherrytree Community Library, Blackburn.  You’ll be suited up and supported to safely handle the bees in their apiary, while learning what’s really going on inside a hive. We’ll explore the honey and beeswax process, why bees matter so much for biodiversity and food, and what we can do (even in small ways) to support them.  It’s practical, fascinating, and a little bit magic.
